Here’s your chance to change how things run. Following a few suspensions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is resuming voter’s registration this July.
According to a tweet from COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez, COMELEC will resume its office operations on Jun. 1. However, voter’s registration will continue on a later date, as June is dedicated to preparing its offices. Eligible Filipino citizens can register to vote on Jul. 1. “Voter registration resumes in July,” reads one reply from Jimenez. June will be dedicated to, essentially retrofitting our offices and procedures to ensure the safety of both the public and our workers.”
Last Apr. 25, COMELEC released a memo announcing the extension of the voter’s registration suspension up to Jun. 30. This was the third suspension of the system due to the community quarantine across areas in the country. Back in Mar. 9, COMELEC offices suspended registration until Mar. 31. On Mar. 27, they extended it until Apr. 30.
