In today’s hottest sneaker drops, the city of Makati’s back in the game. Yep, you read it right—there’s now a third version of the so-called “Air Binay.”
As part of a continuing project by Makati Mayor Abby Binay, 90,000 public students from all over the city—ranging from kindergarten to 12th graders—are expected to snag a pair of these highly meme’d shoes. Kids from Rizal Elementary School and Fort Bonifacio High School were the first to cop the sneakers, causing much excitement from Binay, who encouraged the students to share their photos of their fresh kicks online.

Air Binay 3.0 keeps up with its previous versions, as it features a blue and white colorway with the local government’s logo embroidered on its sides. According to Inquirer, records showed that the Makati city hall allotted P153.8 million for this sneaker drop, which is slightly higher than 2.0’s P148.9 million. While the Air Binay is the highlight of the school giveaway, the Makati government is also handing out a range of other items to students, including rainwear, socks, tumblers, hygiene and emergency kits.
On the upside, free sneakers are a great deal for these students in a time where durable shoes are burning holes in people’s pockets. However, this could be a little iffy for citizens, who may feel indebted after receiving complimentary items. At least these ones don’t involve a politician’s face glaring at you—LBR, that would seriously clash with the colorway.
