Last month, Lorde hinted that she’s working on new material. “It’s definitely too soon for me to talk about anything,” says Lorde in her The Edge interview before adding: “But I will say that it’s been a very productive year.”
In the fifth month of 2020, Lorde rose again. Her new album is coming up nicely. And yes, she is working with “Melodrama” producer Jack Antonoff again.
“The work is so fucking good, my friend. I am truly jazzed for you to hear it,” writes the Kiwi singer/songwriter. In her newsletter, she revealed that she’s been back in the studio since December 2019. She also tells us what it’s like to make an album during a pandemic. “It flowed. A thing started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down. We’re still working away. Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer.”
She also addressed us fans being way too excited for new material. Yes, she also knows how needy we are. That’s why she’s asking us to be a little more patient. Her upcoming album is starting to take form—and she assures us it’s worth the wait.
“I understand—I want nothing more than to feed you treats, pop perfect morsels straight into your little mouths,” jokes Lorde in her newsletter. “But as I get older I realize there’s something to be said for the pleasant feeling of waiting for something of quality to become available to you. You could have something of lesser quality much faster, but as the high-quality thing comes into fruition, a warm feeling grows inside you. Do you know what I mean?”
Patience is key, fellow stans. Quoting biblical mythology: “So it is written by Lorde, so it shall be done:”
