Another day, another round of topics from the Twitterverse. And this day’s trends are a lot to unpack.
“KokoResign” and variations of it have been trending since last night, following reports that coronavirus PUI Senator Koko Pimentel entered Makati Medical Center. That’s right, he went inside knowing that there was a possibility that he was positive for the highly contagious virus.
The senator brought his wife to the delivery room—breaching hospital protocol—only to find out that he was in fact positive for the virus. An entire division (MMC-DR) of the hospital had to be disinfected and several healthcare workers had to be quarantined.
This, at a time when local citizens are being punished with prison time, lack of financial support and alleged “torture” just for breaking curfew or “irresponsibly” loitering outside? No words.
Good thing Makati Medical Center put it into a strongly worded message for us.
Alternatively, the “Happy Birthday Queen” and “#KathrynBlessedat24” tags are celebrating the birthday of active community volunteer and unproblematic queen Kathryn Bernardo. The young actress shows other people of influence how to use their platform and resources for good.
Not only has she advocated for animal welfare, anti-cyberbullying and other social issues, but now there are reports of her donating food for COVID-19 frontliners. When you’re a good person, whether or not you advertise your actions, it will definitely affect the type of following you have. Case in point, the Kathryn fandom.
This just goes to show that empathy, while expected in certain positions and unobligated in others, is not determined by one’s career choice. More power to our unselfish kababayans supporting those who need it the most.
