The Design Center of the Philippines celebrates the 10th Design Week Philippines from Oct. 13 to 21. With an aim to foster creativity and spur innovations, the Design Center brings together different creative visionaries for this week-long event.
“Design Week Philippines acts as force that gathers trailblazers, tinkerers, creatives, and designers in a central interactive platform that complements the continuously expanding pool of ideas, best practices, breakthrough thinking, and collaborative networks that usher in trade opportunities in the Philippine design industry,” executive director of Design Center Rhea O. Matute explains.
This year’s Design Week celebration starts in Metro Manila’s creative hubs: Intramuros in Manila, Malingap Central in Quezon City, The Alley at Karrivin in Makati, and Robins Design Center in Ortigas. These four hubs will hold different exhibits, activities, and lectures for everyone attending.
A notable exhibit for this event includes a progressive feminist exhibit titled “LOOK HERE: Featuring Work by Women Graphic Designers” at ASPACE, Greenbelt. Malingap Central Food Park will host a Creative Roundtable on selling creative work and the future of creative businesses. Robins Design Center will have something in store for everyone interested in furniture design and much more. Expect a lecture on sustainable design leadership with MUNI Community, art workshops, and animation classes by Toon City as well.
“Design Week Philippines wants to grow together with the increased presence of creative hubs in the country. Creative hubs, after all, are catalysts of innovation, driving inclusive growth in the creative economy and positive changes in cities,” Rhea says about the four creative hubs.
The week-long event is more than just a celebration of creativity. This is an opportunity to expand your understanding of the current art zeitgeist. Whether you’re looking to enhance your skills or marvel at the works of today’s new breed of creatives, you’re in for a treat at Design Week Philippines.
