There’s this thing in K-pop called “triple threat.” When an idol is referred to as one, it means they can sing, dance and act.
Chances are, some of your K-pop idols have crossed over to film at some point (not like a cameo, but an actual role, even a small one): BTS’ V starred in “Hwarang” with Park Seo-joon. IU’s range in K-dramas is just as broad as her vocal range. You loved Suzy in “While You Were Sleeping,” but people sometimes forget that she was a member of Miss A.
Blackpink’s Jisoo is the latest K-pop idol to land a lead role in a melodrama from the creators behind “Sky Castle,” who are brewing a new romance drama tentatively called “Snowdrop.”
In case you didn’t know, yes, Jisoo’s a triple threat―actually, I don’t even know if “triple threat” is the right term since she recently got songwriting credits, too. But we can’t deny a multi-talented queen when we see one, so here’s a list of instances y’all slept on her acting skills.
“The Producers” (2015)
Along with 2NE1’s Dara, Winner’s Seungyoon and Boyfriend’s Minwoo, Jisoo had a small role in this entertainment industry-focused K-drama. Her character is a rookie actress who plans to cling onto more popular personalities to gain fame, and even conspired with her senior to bring Cindy (IU’s character) down.
“Arthdal Chronicles” (2019)
Jisoo played Saenarae, the first love of Saya (one of Song Joong-ki’s twin characters on this drama). She spent approximately 15 seconds on screen and said one word (“Saya-nim”), but managed to trend worldwide. Ugh, the power. Imagine once “Snowdrop” finally airs.
Hi Suhyun’s “I’m Different” MV
Soloist Lee Hi and Akdong Musician’s Lee Suhyun collaborated at one point with “I’m Different.” Both girls fawn over iKon’s Bobby, who ends up ditching them to go on a date with Jisoo.
Epik High’s “Spoiler + Happen Ending” MV
In this MV, Jisoo plays a neglected girlfriend who’s tired of how her lover treats her so she breaks up with him and eventually finds someone new. Personally, I think this is where Jisoo’s acting skills really shine, from the solo shots crying to the subtle gestures she makes that hint at the breakup (and frankly, she got more screentime here than in most BP MVs).
