Japan wasted no time in promoting the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. As early as three years ago, they announced the official set of character ambassadors composed of several iconic and well-loved anime protagonists Son Goku of Dragonball Z, Naruto from Naruto Shipuuden, Luffy from One Piece, Usagi from Sailor Moon, Shin from Crayon Shin Chan, Jibanyan from Yokai Watch, Cure Miracle and Cure Magical from Pretty Cure, and Astro Boy. It’s a pretty diverse set of characters ranging from shoujo to shounen with airing dates spanning through various decades. These animated icons will be appearing on the promotional merch for the highly anticipated sports event.

Aside from these ambassadors, Japan also has official mascots for both the Olympics and Paralympics named Miraitowa and Someity, respectively. The promotion for the games continue as the event date nears. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is set to happen from July 24 to Aug. 9, 2020. Here’s the animated trailer featuring Miraitowa and Someity that was released a full year before the games are set to happen.
