Rainy days are just around the corner and what better way to spice up your chill playlist while looking outside your car window (cue cinematic rain) than with the up and coming local acoustic band The Three of Us.
This indie trio of wonder—namely Ivy Hermogenes, Thea Panaguiton, and Adora San Pedro, are definitely a must under your music radar for the chilly ber months. Through their jaw-dropping yet soothing acoustic covers, we also had the chance to invite them to our eclectic Scout Campus Tour that had good food, free copies, great bands–okay the list can go on, at the University of the Philippines Diliman last September 23, 2016. Our personal favorites? Their cover of Beyonce’s “XO” and Up Dharma Down’s “Tadhana.”
We couldn’t get enough of the trio, so for this week’s Scout Friday Picks, we asked the group on where they get their inspiration from (because they are rapidly stealing music spotlight in the interwebs). Ivy, Thea, and Adora then sent in their personal favorite song covers by other artists. Note: Best listened with earphones!
1. “Toxic + Bad Blood” – Reese Lansangan
“When we heard this song, we instantly fell in love with how original and unique Reese’s voice is. She made Britney Spears’ Toxic sound so sexy just with that acoustic guitar of hers!”
2. “Dare You To Move” – Jayesslee
“It was because of these twins that we got tied up together as a band. We sang this when we got in to the finals of the talent competition back in High School. Little did we know we’d still perform up to now!”
3. “Valerie” – Leroy Sanchez
“We’d say that Leroy’s cover of Valerie by Amy Winehouse was relaxing to the soul. It’s just so good to listen to. His voice perfectly fits the song.”
4. “Oo + Evidence” – Clara Benin
“On repeat. Clara’s arrangement of these two songs together never failed to give us those goosebumps! It’s awesome how her voice is calm yet so powerful at the same time.”
5. “Fast Car” – Boyce Avenue
“This classic Tracy Chapman song revived by Boyce Avenue featuring Kinna Granis made us fall in love with the song again. The vocals were so great as well as the shakers that added to the acoustic vibe. It’s really a feel-good song that’s perfect for the road trips and the rainy weather.”
