This Newest Excerpt From Winds of Winter Is This Weekend’s Important Reading

We’ll admit, we missed this one when it first came out, but George R.R. Martin has once again put out an excerpt to whet our appetites for his sixth book, The Winds of Winter. You can go check it out here.

The preview chapter is told from the POV of femme fatale Dornish princess Arianne Martell, whom TV show-only GoT fans will never recognize because she doesn’t exist in it. Arianne is looking for the young man who calls himself Aegon Targaryen, a plotline that also doesn’t exist in the show—in order to determine whether Prince Doran Martell (who also survives because the Sand Snakes do not murder him or Trystane) should back his claim to the Iron Throne against the Lannisters.

For the book fans who’ve waited too long after Dance, it’s but a small serving of GRRM’s usual riveting prose. For fans of the show (and fans who’ve mostly tracked the show’s plot, it’s going to be ridiculously confusing because almost everyone involved in this chapter is completely alien to the Game of Thrones universe.

Here’s to hoping the book finally arrives in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, here’s the next episode’s teaser:
