Woody Allen Takes On Old Hollywood With His Latest Film ‘Cafe Society’

No matter what people may think about Woody Allen, not only will he continue to make films, but also he’ll constantly get the biggest stars in Hollywood to act for him.  He’s always been fond of period pieces, and his latest example is called Café Society. In this romantic comedy, which focuses on the spirited Hollywood café culture of the 1930’s, we see Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart playing opposite each other. In the trailer, we see Eisenburg as a young man who moves to Hollywood to learn about the film industry from his uncle (Steve Carell), a known industry figure who says he “dines with Fred Astaire and Gary Cooper.” What’s interesting is that this movie seems to remind us, well, of several other Woody Allen films. There are several scenes which reference people living during that period, much like Midnight in Paris did with the Lost Generation of the 20’s. The witty dialogue also brings to mind iconic Allen films like Annie Hall and Manhattan.

While Woody Allen isn’t the first person to take on the theme of Old Hollywood, we can hope that he’ll be the one to finally do this time period justice. The film will open at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released online through Amazon.
