“Where does inspiration come from? It comes from meeting people in my travels,” Jeff Staples shares with the crowd. “As long as I meet people i don’t get writer’s block.” New York-bred Jeff Staples is one of the most creative minds in streetwear today with his brand Staple Pigeon, and last August 25 he shared a little bit of New York on his first-time visit to Manila to launch the brand in collaboration with SNEAKPEEK.
Staple Pigeon’s Summer 2016 collection includes a set of tops with eclectic, geometric prints inspired by Andy Warhol’s kitsch art and Hiroshi Fujiwara’s exhibit entitled “Flower Huddle.” “I don’t want you to know my inspiration source,” Staple says as he talks about his process on making clothes. With four seasons a year, and three capsules per season, Jeff Staples and his brand have their hands busy, and Staples himself is very meticulous with every release, ensuring that each collection meets to everyone’s standard.
While talking about Staple Pigeon’s process, the designer and entrepreneur also shared a few tips about making clothes. “Presentation is super key. If you dropped the ball on a photoshoot, everything you’ve worked on would amount to nothing.”
Coinciding with the release of Staple Pigeon’s Summer 2016 collection is the exclusive launch of the Nike Air Max Zero Pigeon ID, sporting the same color palette as the iconic 2005 Staple Pigeon Dunk SB which rocked the whole streetwear scene. While the scene grows bigger and bigger, Staple Pigeon’s release in local shores brings New York and its iconic pigeons closer to Manila.
