PSA: ‘My ID is Gangnam Beauty’ is getting a Thai remake starring Baifern and Win Metawin

“Is it really necessary to be pretty?”

A few years ago, one webtoon-turned-K-drama taught us how to fight the perils of society’s beauty standards. Drilling us with pressing issues on identity, the story amplified self-worth, divulged the importance of inner beauty, and shattered stereotypes attached to plastic surgery. In case you forgot, it’s none other than “My ID is Gangnam Beauty.”

Given its thought-provoking storyline, it’s no wonder that it continues to gain worldwide interest. Now, a Thai adaptation is in the works.

On Nov. 22, Tuesday, television company GMMTV announced the upcoming Thai retelling of the hit series, entitled “Beauty Newbie.” The romance drama stars Baifern Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul (a.k.a. Nam of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”) as Prima Paspimol, “2gether: The Series” star Win Metawin Opas-iamkajorn as Karin Sayapisit, Fah Yongwaree Anilbol as Faye, and Great Sapol Assawamunkong, whose character is yet to be disclosed. “Beauty Newbie’s” official trailer dropped on the same day, too.

As we all know, “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” tells the story of Kang Mi-rae (Im Soo Hyang), a girl bullied throughout her childhood until she decides to get plastic surgery to transform herself. While Mi-rae embraces her new character and maintains a relationship with college friends and Do Kyung Suk (Cha Eun Woo), she faces self-hatred, extreme criticism, and rumors of plastic beauty that gradually undermine her confidence.

Going back to the remake, it seems that the whole adaptation is still brewing. According to the poster and trailer, “Beauty Newbie” is slated to air in 2023.

While we’re waiting for other details (and probably hypothesizing twists), feel free to loop the trailer below.
