A budding novelist’s daydreams aren’t complete without hopes of having their name in print. While we know the hurdles along the way to writer glory, there’s at least a potential boost around the corner. (Hint: publication grants.)
The National Book Development Board (NBDB) is opening applications for a grant that will provide financial subsidies for Filipino-authored books, which will cover expenses for copy editing, layout, design, and printing of recently developed manuscripts and/or research works. The lucky works among the roster will receive a max of P200,000 per title.
According to their announcement post, the board is open to manuscripts in Philippine languages or English that tackle a range of genres, including climate, diversity, poetry, anthologies, crime fiction, sci-fi, graphic novels, horror, romance, and non-fiction.
Applicants are divided into three groups:
- Filipino authors who are able to complete manuscripts under the NBDTF program or similar government manuscript development grant programs;
- Filipino authors who are able to complete manuscripts and with an existing agreement with a publisher but without funding for development and publication of the manuscript; and
- local publishers who are able to publish titles but without funding for printing.
Eligible writers will have to submit their requirements through this Google form till June 11. For any Qs, applicants can shoot NBDB an email at grants@nbdb.gov.ph, or they can ring them up at +63977-6338425. We’re crossing our fingers for y’all.
