Quick question, what do you get when you mix Andrew Garfield and “Lingua Franca’s” Isabel Sandoval together? Simple: A chilling new true crime series.
Fresh off his second Oscar nom, internet boyfriend Andrew Garfield’s ongoing renaissance continues to reign in the upcoming project “Under the Banner of Heaven,” a limited series based on the 2003 nonfiction book of the same name.
Created and written by Dustin Lance Black—known for his Oscar-winning work with 2008 biopic “Milk”—the seven-episode show takes on the murder investigations of Brenda Wright Lafferty and her infant daughter in Salt Lake City, Utah, 1984. On top of the case is detective Jeb Pyre (Garfield), a devout Mormon, whose faith is tested when he finds a connection between the crimes and the rise of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Among the roster of four directors, Filipina filmmaker Isabel Sandoval will take on the directing helm for two of the series’ episodes.
“I love her, she’s incredible,” Garfield said in an interview with TFC News Hollywood. “She was so precise, so sensitive, so professional, so talented, and astute, and I really, really enjoyed her as a director.”
Keen on watching it? I know I am. “Under the Banner of Heaven” is set to premiere on April 28. In the meantime, peek at the trailer below.
