Who asked for a new ‘Fairly OddParents’ live-action? Because, uh, you got your wish

Live-action adaptations: TV execs love ’em. If a dose of nostalgia mixed with fluffed-up reality is your thing, then “The Fairly OddParents” is ready to serve in all its cheesy, sitcom-y, and slightly questionable glory.

Premiering on Paramount Plus on March 31, “The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder” has most of the familiar faces, such as fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda. Like the Nickelodeon cartoon that ran from 2001 to 2017, they’re, well, cartoons. But the rest of the human cast aren’t—and that includes godchild Timmy Turner. Nickelodeon had previously given the animated show the live-action treatment with a 2011 trilogy starring Drake Bell, but it wasn’t exactly fawned over.

For those who haven’t tuned in to Nick in a long, long time, “The Fairly OddParents” revolved around 10-year-old Timmy Turner with a set of fairy godparents aiding him through his childhood hijinks. Fast forward to the 3D world of “Fairly Odder,” college-aged Timmy (Caleb Pierce) is sporting the same old pink ’fit, now with the Princeton name branded on his shirt. In the true fashion of other childhood shows (looking at you, “Blue’s Clues”), Timmy is ready to hand over his magical godparents to the next gen.

With Cosmo and Wanda in the hands of his cousin Viv (Audrey Grace Marshall) and her new stepbrother Roy (Tyler Wladis), the hijinks, as it seems, will continue to ensue. The recently dropped trailer is sprinkled with sitcom staples (“What could possibly go wrong?”, Roy asks at one point), but I’ve got a few Qs relating to the “Fairly OddParents” canon: 1) If we’re going by “Da Rules,” why does grown-up Timmy still remember the existence of Cosmo and Wanda, and 2) wait a sec, are Tad and Chad still 2D??

Well, we can wait until March 31 for the potential answers to these burning questions. Watch the full trailer for “The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder” series below.
