‘Scott Pilgrim’ is back—as an anime series

You know what sucks? Contrary to Mr. Scott Pilgrim, not everything, as an anime adaptation of the series is now brewing.

Nearly two years after news broke of a “Scott Pilgrim” animated adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed info about an upcoming anime series based on the graphic novel series created by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

According to the report, O’Malley will have a significant hand on the series as a co-writer and executive producer along with BenDavid Grabinski, the showrunner behind Nickelodeon’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” revival, and Edgar Wright himself, the director behind “Scott Pilgrim’s” 2010 cult classic film adaptation.

While there isn’t an official series order yet, anime studio Science Saru—the same house that produced shorts for “Star Wars: Visions”—is set to work on the project.

It isn’t much of a surprise for folks who’ve kept up with the “Scott Pilgrim” renaissance. Just last year, a video game based on the 2010 film rose from the long-lost void where games based on movies usually spend eternity, now landing on new consoles like the Nintendo Switch and PS4. And after more than 10 years, the film adaptation’s quotes are still running in the heads of soft boys everywhere (and ours, admittedly).

As of writing, deets on when the anime series will drop is still up in the air. While that’s cooking, what about a potential film sequel soon? Asking for a friend.
