Cheerio, Eggsy: ‘Kingsman 3’ will wrap up his story

Good news to anyone who’s had a “Kingsman” phase: Part three is still in the works. Bad news? It’s the end of Eggsy’s story, apparently.

According to a preview of an upcoming Comicbook.com interview with director Matthew Vaughn, “Kingsman 3” will reportedly wrap up the arc of protagonist Eggsy. The third film will serve as the follow-up to 2014’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and 2017’s “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” which revolves around a secret British spy organization that recruits a streetwise kid into their program.

“Kingsman 3” still doesn’t have a title—that we know of, at least—but Vaughn mentioned that production is “all set to go” to film in September 2022. The future of the “Kingsman” franchise had previously been up in the air, following Disney’s acquisition of its distributor 20th Century Fox. But back in 2019, actor Taron Egerton already hinted at the existence of a “Kingsman 3” script.

“I’m really not allowed to say anything, but there is a script,” Egerton said. “It’s a really neat idea. That plan, at the moment, is that we’d like to do another one, one more time.”

The film franchise is based on the eponymous comic book series created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. If you’ve watched “Captain America: Civil War” and “Logan,” you have Millar’s comic book storylines to thank. Meanwhile, you’ll know Gibbons for his collab with Alan Moore on “Watchmen.”

Meanwhile, the “Kingsman” prequel “The King’s Man” is set to release in theaters abroad this month, Dec. 22. We won’t expect any Eggsy cameos given that it’s set in World War I, but it’s enough to soothe our “Kingsman”-deprived selves, at least.
