Watch a couple raise a half-lamb kid in A24’s ‘Lamb’ trailer

Flower crowns. Farm animals. Rural European towns. Throw in some WTF weirdness in there and you got yourselves an A24 horror. This pretty much sums up its new film “Lamb,” which—spoiler alert—revolves around a half-human, half-lamb child.

The indie production company recently unveiled the first full trailer for the film, which had previously premiered in this year’s Cannes fest. Helmed by first-time feature-length film director Valdimar Jóhannsson, “Lamb” is set in an idyllic Icelandic mountain landscape, where a couple (played by Noomi Rapace and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson) raises a newborn child. And not just any child—that’s where the half-human, half-lamb comes into the picture.

Dubbed as a mixture of Icelandic folktale and Nordic livestock horror, “Lamb’s” trailer keeps things decidedly low-key as it revs up to the grand reveal, uncovering the mysterious kid. It’s all downhill from there, when its biological sheep mom and hundreds of other furry livestock begin to plan their doom.

While the film’s full plot has been kept on the down low to preserve a “ludicrous central twist,” the official synopsis states that the couple will “soon face the dark consequences of defying the will of nature.”

Critics call “Lamb” “mesmerizing,” “bizarre” and “bracingly original,” which is probably expected from the folks who brought you your nightmares from “Midsommar.”

“Lamb” will head to cinemas abroad on Oct. 8. While we wait, watch the trailer below.
