5 Things You Can’t Miss In Asia Pop Comic Con 2016

by the Scout Team

Okay, we we were there at Asia Pop Comic Con today, and we loved what we saw: so many things happening at every corner. It’s a treat for the senses, and if you pay attention to any one of the many attractions you can see, you’re going to enjoy it. Asia Pop Comic Con bills itself as the biggest annual comic and pop culture convention in the Philippines, and rightly so. Three days of pop culture covering film, television, comics, music, toys, games, sports, anime, and of course, cosplay, front-lined by a powerhouse team of celebrity guests. There are going to be exclusive sneak peeks, larger-than-life exhibits, and exciting contests on every day.

With so much going on, we decided to list down the top 5 things you should not miss in this year’s Asia Pop Comic Con.

The CAGE

What’s any con without any cosplay? Cosplayers may be frequent at any event, but the Cosplay Authority Global Challenge, or CAGE, is the place to be if you want to see the best cosplayers in the region. For the Manila leg of the CAGE, cosplayers Riddle, Ani-Mia, Lindze Merritt, and Yugana Seshi Uon are joining our local cosplay heavyweights Alodia Gosiengfiao and Myrtle Sarrosa. The CAGE is happening Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the Main stage.

The music

If you’ve seen One Punch Man, you know how catch the theme song is. At the Asia Pop Comic Con, you might get to hear it live, performed by the man himself,  Hiroshi Kitadani of JAM Project. The J-rock icon also performed the One Piece theme, so you might get to hear that too. Watch out for any Luffy or Saitama cosplayers who want to take their cosplaying to the next level by singing along.

Get scouted for your art

Impressive visuals are always welcome, and with Asia Pop Comic Con get ready to feast your eyes with a lot of good pieces of art. Jason Palmer has worked for the biggest shows—The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and Star Wars to name a few—and his art will be on display throughout the con. And most importantly, your artistic work may get yourself a job at Marvel as Marvel’s Senior VP of Creative and Creator Development, C.B. Cebulski, is back to look for new comic artists for marvels. Bring your portfolios, fam.

Hall M

Speaking of Marvel, they’re bringing a special, exclusive treat for 1,000 lucky Marvel fans. Remember the famous Hall H in the San Diego Comic Con? We’re getting our own version, Hall M, and it’s just what you’re imagining it to be: get a sneak peek at new footage from Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange, as well other exclusive content from the rest of Marvel’s assets. The lines may be long AF, but if we know anything about Marvel, it’s going to be worth the wait.

The Celebrity guests

Of course, of course; how could we forget? Get Beast, Rebekah Mikaelson, Gendry, and Eleven, all together in one room and what do you get? The guests for this year’s Asia Pop Comic Con of course! Nicholas Hoult, Claire Holt, Joe Dempsie, and Millie Bobby Brown are all set to meet their fans with photographs, autographs, and meet-and-greets. Whether you’re a fan of The Vampire DiariesStranger ThingsGame of Thrones, the X-men series, and Skins (the original one, not the trash US one), you won’t be disappointed.

Interested? Get a two-day pass for Php 850, or a one-day pass for Php 550 pesos on level 2 of the SMX Convention Center, where Asia Pop Comic Con will be held.

Today was a blast, but tomorrow we’ll be back when doors open at 10am.  Aside from what we’ve listed, there are lots (and we mean LOTS) of stuff to see and experience. See you there!
