Don’t lie, you clowned the hell out of Rebecca Black’s debut song “Friday” nine years ago. The music video has almost 150 million views now and a ridiculous likes-to-dislikes ratio, inducting it into the list of most disliked videos on YouTube.
But were we prepared for its comeback? Hell nah. A “Friday” remix just dropped, and here’s what we’re getting: Rebecca got an edgy glow-up, she’s ahead of her time (I mean, the flying cars?) and her friends turned into the rage memes of 2010.
Honestly, who knew 2010’s nostalgia is a thing?
And the song’s all about “letting your freak flag fly” now: Rebecca still sings her weekend-yearning lyrics (in a pitch-tuned, almost distorted voice), rapper Dorian Electra is now the “friend that’s on her right” and the tween party turned into a rave fest.
Honestly, it looked more fun to embrace the meme that the song became rather than redeeming it, and we’re here for it.
The original songs’s even certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, and we can see the plaque making a cameo in the remix music video. And it’s well-deserved, because guess what? You’re still bopping to that song.
