Come through as a queer witch in this fantasy board game

Obsessed with medieval narrative boardgames but tired of the heteronormative characters? This game currently in development might be for you. Featuring queer women and sapphic roleplays, Dungeon Bitches is, as its kickstarter website describes, “a game in which disaster lesbians get fucked up in dungeons.”

Dungeon Bitches is a tabletop game set in a dungeon (obviously) that is “harsh, but through cooperation and violence you can carve out a small space for yourselves in it.” Inspired by the popular Powered by the Apocalypse game design, the game’s premise revolves around an adventure where roles (which includes The Witch, The Amazon, and The Disgraced Princess, among others) are played throughout, and relationships power up any ability that might help each other survive.

Developers Emily Allen, Sara CaraPace and Mxtress Khan chose the word ‘bitches’ to reclaim the term, which has been a “word thrown at women who refuse to be compliant or subservient.” And that’s seen in the game roles where women “will no longer sit down and shut up and do as they’re told.”

But you can still choose to play as a non-binary character, or even an asexual one. Diversity? Sign me up.

Although the game is still a work-in-progress, fans can expect the release of the game in September. You can pledge funds to the ongoing Kickstarter here.
