It’s not just the “Spider-Man” cast making a grand return, folks. “iCarly,” a.k.a. everyone’s favorite “Drake and Josh” substitute, will soon have a reboot of its own.
First reported by TVLine, the Nickelodeon show, which aired from 2007 to 2012, is making its return through Paramount+’s upcoming streaming service launching in 2021. According to the site, original cast members such as Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Nathan Kress, (Freddie), and Jerry Trainor (Spencer) are set for a comeback in a follow-up to the original series.
Of course, we can’t help but spot the glaring omission in that roster: Jennette McCurdy, who played Carly’s best friend, Sam Puckett.
In the “iCarly” ’verse, Sam was last spotted driving her motorcycle into the sunset en route to southern California, where the spin-off “Sam and Cat” takes place. Sam and Ariana Grande’s Cat become the unlikeliest of roommates, a year’s worth of a show happens, then they both end up in an Arizona jail for some reason. No other season was made, which begs the question—what the heck happened??
If “iCarly” 2.0 were to take its cue from other reboots, then AWOL Sam might simply be swept under the rug with an easy excuse (looking at you, “Fuller House”).
Reports have also said that OG creator Dan Schneider will not be involved in the project, so things may be a tad different this time around. Instead, “School of Rock” producer Jay Kogen and Ali Schouten will take the helm as co-showrunners.
Call me blindly optimistic, but I’m still hoping for a Sam cameo of some sort. If only we can save her from Cat’s clutches, that is.
