2020 is pure garbage fire. And this viral video of a tall, burning Christmas tree inside a mall while a classic carol plays in the background summarizes our hell year pretty well.
On Dec. 1, mall-goers were shocked to see SM Clark’s Christmas tree centerpiece on fire. Punto Central Luzon Newspaper reports a short-circuiting lantern caused the blaze. To add absurdism to the late capitalist scene, “Jingle Bells” played loudly in the background while the tree burned for everyone to see.
“With the good and immediate response of the mall’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), who are trained to handle these kinds of scenarios, the area was declared clear in less than 30 seconds,” writes Punto Central Luzon Newspaper. “Customers can rest assured safe and fun shopping at SM City Clark this holiday season.”
No one was harmed in this video. Although, it did embody our Christmas sentiments perfectly. A lot has happened and not everything went our way. 2020 was supposed to be the year of 2020 vision (whatever that means). We’re at the last leg of the year yet Miss ’Rona is still here.
At least, everyone and the Christmas tree were okay in the end. I, too, wish to manifest the same energy for us this 2021.
