Bad Student, Manila’s only riso-print studio, was among the casualties of Typhoon Ulysses. After six feet floods submerged the entire space, their riso machine, riso drums, studio computers, binding equipment and more were wiped out—items that were supposedly prepped for the Tokyo Art Book Fair on Nov. 16.
The brainchild of Pau Tiu and Dyam Gonzales has helped artists of different disciplines find their footing in the art of riso—thanks to the countless workshops held inside their warm home in Marikina. Now, these creatives have teamed up to resurrect the space.
With the hashtag #BadStudent4Lyf, artists took their solidarity to Twitter through a collaborative digital zine. “I and a group of amazing artists teamed up to create a digital zine,” said illustrator Corny Babe.
Tiu and Gonzales have promised to send the digital zine to those who would donate for the revival of their business. Just make sure to leave your email address in the comments section of their GoFundMe page and wait until they ship the copies on Dec. 3.
