This iconic hip-hop film on EJK is now available online

The first time I heard about 2017’s “Respeto” was during my college thesis defense when one of my professors gave me a quick film rec. While it isn’t odd with the context—I wrote mine on rap music—it was still a bit momentous. For those who want to relive the hype, well, here’s your chance.

As part of Filipino American History Month this October, the Cinemalaya 2017 Best Film will be available to watch on-demand through several platforms across the web. Treb Monteras II’s indie flick follows a 17-year-old aspiring rapper (played by IRL rapper Abra), as he navigates the streets at the height of drug-related extrajudicial killings. It takes a look at underground hip-hop culture, rap as an art form and at the core of it, respect for human beings (But if you need any more reasons to lure you in, we’ve listed those too).

It isn’t just limited to folks on Philippine soil. For those in the US, “Respeto” is available via Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Vudu and Microsoft Store, for $10 (P484) or $5 for rent (P242). You can check out the full list on their link page
