Spotify’s “future” karaoke add-on will make our hearts literally sing

From deep dives into our psyche to aux cord-stealing stories (which may or may have not ruined a friendship or two), we have been blessed by Spotify. Now, it seems they’re adding one more feature that’ll make our inner titas literally sing: karaoke.

According to Music Business Worldwide, the streaming service is currently developing a new feature dubbed “Spotify Karaoke Mode.” Reports of the latest add-on came up when reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong tweeted the karaoke mode’s current status, saying that “the vocal level is adjustable.” Wong had previously revealed Spotify’s video podcast feature and their plans for virtual concerts.

The tweet also comes with a screenshot of the add-on’s mobile interface, which features the Rick Astley classic “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Is it on purpose? Are we falling into the hole of a well-executed yet subtle rickroll? That might be a stretch but this feature is only one of the many tests Spotify is running.

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience,” a spokesperson said to NME. “Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share at this time.”

While we know we won’t get random videoke montages in this one (boohoo), we’ll take our karaoke crumbs just so we can randomly belt out show tunes. Come on, Spotify, make our dreams come true (insert Hall & Oates here).
