Right when the Pentagon officially released footage of unidentified flying objects, 2020 has another win in store for the tinfoil hat-wearing crowd. A recent Senate Intelligence Committee report in the US has implied the existence of a task force dedicated to UFOs.
A recent piece by Motherboard revealed that the committee is requesting the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense to create a detailed analysis regarding “unidentified aerial phenomena” held by the task force of the same name. This marks it as the most glaring acknowledgment of the task force’s existence, which was only alluded to in statements by Department of Defense spokesperson Susah Gough. This information was acquired by UFO writer Roger Glassel in May, which was reported by declassified government archive, the Black Vault.
“The Committee supports the efforts of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force at the Office of Naval Intelligence to standardize collection and reporting on unidentified aerial phenomenon, any links they have to adversarial foreign governments, and the threat they pose to U.S. military assets and installations,” reads the committee report. “However, the Committee remains concerned that there is no unified, comprehensive process within the Federal Government for collecting and analyzing intelligence on unidentified aerial phenomena, despite the potential threat.”
While the Area 51 folks are definitely side-eyeing this with interest, the UFOs in question don’t necessarily mean extraterrestrial life—although, they may still be part of the equation. The committee requests the report to identify any potential aerospace and other possible threats to their national security, human work or not.
Back in April, the Pentagon released clips of so-called “unidentified aerial phenomenon” from the last 15 years. Here in the Philippines, supposed UFO sightings were recorded throughout history, dating back to 1949. At this point, can someone ring up Mulder and Scully already?
