While IRL fashion shows are a no-go, what’s one way to get a runway fix? Through the internet’s hub of the moment, Animal Crossing.
Our favorite substitute to physical connections has now housed its first-ever fashion show, where looks from Chanel, Balenciaga, Fendi and more graced its pixeled runway. The audience was comprised of foxes, cats and other species from kingdom Animalia, but aside from that, it recreated the magic of your usual Spring/Summer shows—soundtracked by Michel Gaubert too.
Berlin-based fashion organization Reference Festival kickstarted the project, with avatars decked out in outfits inspired by several luxury brands. This is the brainchild of Kara Chung of @animalcrossingfashionarchive and stylist Marc Goehring of 032C.
Although an Animal Crossing fashion event looks easy on paper, according to its organizers, putting it together was similar to a physical one. “To be honest, [we prepared] very much like a normal pull in the first stage when working on a shoot: I went through my favorite collections of the season and picked the looks,” says Goehring to Vogue. “You have to really think about which specifics you can delete from a look and what you pixelate, so that in the end it remains this one specific look which everybody knows—and it’s recognizable!”
