Did you miss Petersen Vargas’ work on the big screen? Us too. But don’t worry, soon enough we’ll all get to see “Some Nights I Feel Like Walking.” Although, it will be making a quick pit stop at the Cannes Film Festival first.
Producer Jade Castro (“Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington) and director Vargas’ made the announcement through their social media accounts. They revealed that the film will be part of the 16th edition of Cinefondation L’Atier. Vargas’ film is among the 15 promising projects chosen from 15 countries for L’Atier, happening on Mar. 14 to 21.
So far, the film has been presented at Locarno Film Fest in Switzerland and the Southeast Asian Fiction Film (SEAFIC) Awards in Hong Kong. This was the first Filipino film to ever win the SEAFIC Awards. And this 2020, they’re taking over Cannes.

“Some Nights I Feel Like Walking” is about a rich teenager that has a run-in with a group of street hustlers. In our previous interview with him regarding the film, he describes it as a portrait of the Philippines. “The act of walking—without direction but with conviction—into the uncertain night and unknowable dark is a means to confront the city and observe its other faces: its filth, undersides, myths,” reads his director’s note.
Upon sharing the news on his Facebook account, the director wrote: “High-key kilig seeing myself on the Festival Cannes site.” Honestly, we felt that high-key kilig when we went to the Cannes’ web page, too.
