Oh, Flamingo! tackles existential exhaustion in their new track

Thank God it’s (new music) Friday—indie rock quartet Oh, Flamingo! has our back. It’s almost exactly a year ago when they released the soul-crushing “Four Corners,” which tells the ups and downs of a seemingly short-lived relationship. This time, their new track is as soul-crushing—but instead focuses on silent internal battles.

Released yesterday, Feb. 6, “Naubos Na” is Oh, Flamingo!’s first drop in 2020. Written and sung by the band’s bassist Billie Dela Paz, this fresh single feels like a sharp reality punch by our 2 a.m. Twitter drafts. Armed with slightly trippy and ghostly tunes accompanying the hard-hitting lyrics, this track does a good job at dissecting our thoughts without catching us off guard.

“Naubos na ang kaluluwa. Pinilit kong matulad sa kanila,” Dela Paz sings, touching on the insecurities brought on by societal pressures. Meanwhile, the line: “Lagi na lang pangalawa sa karera ng buhay” talks about the anxiety that comes with losing progress in life. As the track reaches its bridge, our emotional exhaustion starts to intensify, and we start questioning what really matters.

Murky and infectious, “Naubos Na” makes us feel seen. And that’s enough.
