The time has come for our roaring ‘20s, friends. Okay, we might not have the same economic growth and prosperity as the world did a hundred years ago, but we’re doing our best in making do with what we have.

BLuTX La Union (Jan. 11)
Magpies Press is bringing the zines to La Union this Jan.11 at the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library, San Fernando. Pick up some works by independent creatives, make some yourself at their zine-making workshop, engage in discussion on the forms of resistance, or join in on a roleplaying game night. And yes, we repeat that every single thing is free. Accessibility—we love to see it.

2020 New Year Party Pooper! (Jan. 11)
New year, same old shit from the government? The first step to fighting for our rights is to know the answer to that question. That’s why discussions like the one farmers’ rights group SAKA is organizing might be worth your Sunday. Party poopers, time to unite on Jan. 11 at Bad Cafe from 2 to 6 p.m. and talk about what to expect from Duterte’s government in the coming year.

Sometimes Social (Jan. 11)
The Tokyo-based beats maker is here to bless us with yet another dance party on Jan. 11 at Lampara, Poblacion. Groove to sets courtesy of Kix Suarez, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, and Jumping Chicken. If previous Sometimes Socials parties are any indication, you’re in for a banger of a night.
Thrifty-20: A New Year Flea Market (Jan. 11-12)
We can’t have too many thrifting events, which is why we also have our eye on Thrifty-20 happening at 92 Maginhawa St. It’s not just about getting new-ish threads either: There will also be an educational discussion courtesy of SAKA on the 11th and a pay-what-you-can songwriting workshop with Ang Bandang Shirley’s Ean Aguila on the 12th.

Laguna Hip Hop Nights Year 2 (Jan. 18)
The Laguna Hip Hop group is out to cultivate the culture in their corner of the south with a grassroots community of creatives. They’re celebrating their second anniversary with a night of rap and dance cyphers along with dj sets to keep the vibe up all night. The party’s free, but there’s an option to pay what you can to support the movement.

Munzinelupa 2020 (Jan. 25)
On the south side, the annual Munzinelupa is set to happen at Picked Cafe & Gallery, Muntinlupa once more. If you don’t already know, the gathering is set to feature a ton of live acts, film screenings and an art market filled with wares from your friendly neighborhood indie creatives. Trust us, you won’t run out of (read: free!) things to do during the whole-day affair.

Saturday x Future Market (Jan. 25)
If you’re a treasure hunter looking for your next statement piece or a treasure hoarder looking to unload some of your possessions, you might want to be at the first Saturday x Future Market of the decade. Drop by the function at 413 Escolta in the 98B Collaboratory space. Giving the middle finger to mass production by buying from community markets sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday to us.
