Spotify’s origin story is the next Netflix series to watch out for

If you’ve been on film Twitter recently, then you might know how big of a deal 2010’s “The Social Network” is (if anyone doesn’t know what “fuck-you flip-flops” are, they’re really missing out). Now, cut out Facebook and replace it with music streaming giant Spotify. What do you get? A Netflix series.

Based on the book “Spotify Untold,” Netflix is set to develop a scripted series about founders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. The planned show will highlight their story as a tech startup, amid a time when music pirating was at its height. Netflix describes the upcoming series as one about “how hard convictions, unrelenting will, access, and big dreams can help small players challenge the status quo.”

“I am excited to bring the story of Sweden based Spotify to life on the screen. It is an ongoing fairytale in modern history about how Swedish wiz kids changed the music industry forever. The story is truly exciting and challenging,” says director Per-Olav Sørensen. “Challenging because the Spotify story has not ended yet—it is still running with high speed and will probably change while we work on the project.”

There’s no word yet on the series’ release date or even a final title. In the meantime, someone should start planning a Spotify album about Netflix’s origins. Quid pro quo, you know what I mean?
