Three months ago, filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz hosted “19-Kopong-Kopong,” a silent film festival at the University of the Philippines Film Institute (UPFI)—with live experimental music fused, of course. This coming Dec. 5, Thursday, Khavn’s work will again be featured in “Orpheusatanorium! Free Jazz From Hell!,” a surround-sound live cinema with live improvisatory music—from 100 musicians—starting from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sounds like a party I’d drop everything for.

This event features the work of Khavn, Lourd de Veyra, Jazz Nicolas, Diego Mapa, The Sleepyheads, Floating Heads, Rox Lee, and more. It’s an enticing lineup, and the roster of silent films doensn’t fall short. Curated by Khavn and Stefano Galantio, there’ll be viewings of poetic and soulful “The Blood of a Poet” (1930) by Jean Cocteau, iconically futurist “Perfido Incanto” (1917) by Anton Guilio Bragaglia and emotionally-charged “A Page of Madness” (1926) by Teinosuke Kinugasa.
Presented by Kamias Overground and in cooperation with UP Film Institute, “Orpheusatanorium! Free Jazz From Hell!” is out here to spoil us with magic and madness.
