Prayers confirmed: Lorde will bless us with a new album

Our Lorde and savior is back, back, back again for a third release. For Melodrama’s second anniversary, Lorde’s IG story reveals that a follow-up album is “in the oven.” And mama, we cannot wait to hear what she’s baking.

What can we say? Melodrama was a gift: Fans loved it, critiques applauded it, and of course, our Kiwi pop sensation felt the same way. It showed her growth as an artist and as a person. In her IG Story’s heartfelt note, she thanked her fans and told us about her journey while making that record.

“The day it came out I did a jigsaw puzzle all day in my hotel room in NY. I felt so emptied, I didn’t really know yet that you make a record and get filled up, and then releasing it empties you.. and slowly fills you up again,” she posted. “I was such a baby making that work, lots of emotions and learning so much all the time.”

Then she ended by saying, “Third one in the oven.” As a fan since Pure Heroine, this news is a huge win for me.

Lorde’s “Royals” came into mainstream consciousness back during freshman college. These days, I associate her tracks with my coming-of-age or young love’s fragility. Her fans probably feel the same. She debuted with Pure Heroine back in 2013. On it, she sang songs about friendships, late night road trips, and getting thick skin as we grow older. While in Melodrama, she carefully dissected her heartbreak, churning out 11 tracks from her sorrow.

Is the third album about adulting? Or will she do a Lana Del Rey and pull a Lust for Life? Believe me, I’m a writer in the dark for this one (weak pun intended).

We can all say Melodrama was peak Lorde energy. Right now, the pressure is on for her third release. Who’s to say? Maybe this upcoming album will blow us all away. Or at least, it will further her growth as an artist, the way her songs furthered our own growth.
