Last we talked to fashion designers Abraham Guardian and Mamuro Oki of Ha.Mü in 2018, they told us that they wanted to go international. Less than a year later, they’re set to do a Paris exhibition. Now that’s the kind of grind we aspire to.
Ha.Mü will be participating in the Palais de Tokyo show City Prince/sses, which is described as an “unpredictable laboratory” for experimenters. Filipino artists Doktor Karayom, Dex Fernandez, Dina Gadia, Leeroy New, Palma Rodríguez, Timmy Harn, and John Jayvee del Rosario and Maine Magno of Urban Decay Planning will also be part of the 50-strong lineup that ranges from fashion designers to tattooists to musicians and more.
City Prince/sses examines how artists grow from cities like Dhaka, Lagos, Manila, Mexico City and Tehran, which are “expressions of a tissue of contradictions.” These megacities are bombarded—congested, almost—with so many narratives, while everything is so standardized and calibrated for work, that it molds creators who attempt to “hack” the status quo. And if the criteria is experimental, then Ha.Mü fits the bill to a tee.
The exhibition opens on Jun 21 and ends on Sep 8. Send us a postcard from Paris, Ha.Mü!
