The Ransom Collective’s vibrant “I Don’t Care” MV is all about contemplation

It’s 2019. Can you see it? We’ve entered the seemingly new era of six-piece band The Ransom Collective.

Known for their wanderer-in-the-woods type of indie folk brand, the young outfit has turned a new page: more upbeat, sprinkled with a bit of synth-heavy, almost bedroom pop take. The visual counterpart of their new track, “I Don’t Care,” looks like a comeback after the release of their last album Traces in 2017, and fans couldn’t be any happier hearing some new twist infused with the original easy-breezy signature sound. In the first few seconds, you’ll still know it’s a TRC song. What a skill.

“I Don’t Care” serves as our new introspective anthem masked in suave bass lines, happy beats, and TRC members in literally slow head bops. “Sometimes, I feel like I don’t care. Sometimes, I feel like I’m not really there,” they sing with flashing lights and multi-colored patterns in the background. This time though, they’re less on smiles, more on stares. As the MV continues, the message on escape and empathy slowly open in sync with the dimming of lights. Then, galaxy-like hues splash before we know it.

Could their new single be related to mental health awareness?
