Being a rock star isn’t all about the fame and fortune for everybody. For veterans like Rico Blanco, it’s about good old professionalism.
In a tweet last night, the former Rivermaya frontman gave his two cents about acts who flake on gigs for bigger ones.
“When you confirm a gig, no matter how small, you have a responsibilty to HONOR your commitment even if another gig comes along later on,” Rico says in the post. The way he capitalized honor, we really felt that. “Ditching a small gig for a bigger one is very unprofessional and makes you look really cheap,” he adds. Sounds like a good lesson to performers, both newbies and seasoned professionals.
According to Rico, he himself has never ditched a gig or guesting in over 26 years. And of course, he’s one who practices what he preaches. “I gave up the opportunity of touring the US and UK and recording with @wheatus in ’05 to come home and do one SEA Games gig. Yes it was painfully hard to fathom and accept but I did it anyway,” he tells a fan in the replies. “It’s about principles,” he says. We stan Rico Blanco forever.
Now, we’ll leave you with a bonus tweet of wisdom from the living legend.
