Ylona Garcia knows just how to deal with heartbreak like a true queen: that is, to wipe your tears, face forward, and move on. Her new single “No Turning Back” tells us just that, as she sings about taking care of her heart after a relationship gone wrong.
Ylona does the vocals on the track alongside Australian YouTuber AngelMelly, with Solo Tohi on production. The lyrics go, “there’s no looking back now / looking back at us / we were so in love / but there’s no time for that now” as the two singers say goodbye and good riddance to a bad romance. The pulsing beat makes us want to dance in the middle of a club, and if that’s the cure to heartbreak, we definitely aren’t complaining.
We had a quick chat with Ylona about her new single and how it came about.
How did you, AngelMelly, and Solo Tohi get together to make the track?
They’re super close friends of mine whom I have an insane amount of respect and praises for. When I went back to Australia, we went out for lunch and it somehow turned into a studio session, which later became the single it is today.
Cool, so did you guys write the lyrics together? And could you tell us about the inspiration behind it?
Yes, we wrote the lyrics together. The inspiration behind the song was our experiences with relationships and losing oneself emotionally to another. Most of the time when it comes to relationships, whether it be with a significant other, friends or family. We quite often obtain some of their qualities, good and bad. And if the relationship would ever lead to a break up, you’d start wondering who you are because you don’t remember your life without them.
Most people have this whole idea of meeting their other half and the person that completes them. But you’d want someone to add to your life, not complete it. Because you complete it.
For me, my problem was being too reliant on most of my relationships, but it’s human and it’s inevitable to not go through such things, but it teaches you and helps you reflect on your values and what you really want for yourself. Most people have this whole idea of meeting their other half and the person that completes them. But you’d want someone to add to your life, not complete it. Because you complete it, if that makes any sense haha.
Yes! Adding instead of completing, definitely. Final question: will we be expecting more music from you this year?
Definitely. 🙂
