Weezer covers TLC, Michael Jackson, and A-ha in their latest album

Pop Goes Punk compilation albums can choke. On this edition of #ThrowbackThursday, Weezer’s surprise album drop is here to change the cover’s game. Their latest album called The Teal Album is filled with covers of everybody’s favorite pop tracks. And don’t worry, their cover of Toto’s “Africa” is in there too.

Apart from their cover of “Africa;” the 10 track album also has other ‘80s classics like Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” and the quintessential track of the era, A-ha’s “Take On Me.” They also covered ‘90s hits like TLC’s “Scrubs” and Radiohead’s “Paranoid,” among other enjoyable pop classics. Weezer even went all out on the throwback vibes by wearing Miami Vice-inspired wardrobe for their cover art.

According to Vulture, the success of their cover of Toto’s “Africa” pushed the band to release this album. But hey, they’re not going to be a full-time cover band. The Teal Album is merely a precursor for their next album called The Black Album, which is filled with new originals from this iconic ’90s band. It is set to be released this March 1.

Sure, nostalgia can get played out at times. But this is definitely not one of those times. Weezer’s The Teal Album is perfect for anyone who wants a good time and is curious to hear how Rivers Cuomo will sing “No Scrubs.” Whether you’re a fan of Weezer or just an average person who enjoys a good cover, this album will definitely satiate one’s need for a great throwback.
