Support the Sagay 9 victims through this benefit gig

An investigation on the slain sugarcane farmers of Sagay, Negros Occidental is ongoing. Our government might remain pragmatic toward the massacre. But artists and activists across the metro are not letting the pursuit for justice grow stale. Through the benefit concert, Alay sa Sagay, everyone is invited to fight this huge injustice on our farmers.

Happening on Nov. 10 at Conspiracy Garden Café, this event aims to raise funds for the victims of the massacre. Expect a night of music encompassing genres uniting for a great cause.

No Face Records’ Mocksmile and SkinxBones are part of the lineup. Bands like Kill Ratio, Nonentities, The Shocking Details, and Kapitan Kulam are performing as well.

Apart from enjoying the music, literature will be available to broaden people’s perspectives about the state of the nation. The Libro Hindi Bala booksale will set up shop for the benefit concert. Gantala Press’ books like Ligaw-Tingin, Lawanen, at Daloy 2 will be available for sale.

The aftershock of the Sagay Massacre continues. Just last Tuesday, Lawyer Benjamin Ramos, these farmers’ lawyer was shot dead by unknown riding assailants. Injustice plagues the families of these workers and it speaks volumes on how unfair the current system is.

Events like these are necessary and timely. Tapping into gig culture and accessible literature helps educate everyone on what is happening around us. After all, protests aren’t limited to the streets and Alay sa Sagay is a proof of this.
