Get ready to add these Filipino-designed Vans shoes to your collection.
Filipino artist Nikko Pelaez bested the other 10,000 entries from Asia and bagged the grand prize for the second year of Vans Asia Custom Culture Competition.
Nikko’s design on the Vans True White Slip-On seems to depict an angry god. He culled inspiration from “our own gods, masters of our own destiny, skaters who choose their our own path to ride.” Vans said in a press release, “The blazing fire represents all of life’s obstacles to overcome and the black and white motif symbolizes the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang—the necessity for balance and harmony in life.”
Vans is set to release Nikko’s design in stores in 2019.
Congrats, Nikko!
