Love Comes in All Shapes and Sizes

Following up on their smash hit “Cake by the Ocean” a few months ago, DNCE is back with their new music video of “Toothbrush” and you’re going to fall in love with it for all the right reasons.

Aside from the catchy tune and on-point lyrics like, “We don’t need to keep it hush, you can leave a toothbrush at my place,” and a personal favorite, “I just, I just can’t let you go,” there’s more to this song than its heart-touching lyrics.

The music video features plus size model Ashley Graham as Joe Jonas’s girlfriend. It shows a couple of steamy scenes between the two but at the same time displays a whole new level of intimacy. Honestly, watching the music video left me speechless. I remember I was smiling during the whole video, trying to hide the goosebumps so no one around me would notice anything suspicious.

While watching the music video, I didn’t question nor have any violent reactions towards the girl Joe was mingling with. I saw her as a beautiful girl; a lucky girl, perhaps, that gets to cuddle with Joe Jonas. I’ll repeat it guys: cuddling with Joe Jonas. What a dream.

The video, with its body-positive message, has been getting non-stop positive feedback since its release. Ashley has been called #flawless, sexy, and beautiful by several media outlets. Body shaming has been an ongoing issue in our society and this music video is like a big slap in the face for all those people who still believe in one perfect or ideal body that all women need to conform to.

Ashley Graham is a model for the plus-sized brand, Lane Bryant. She is also known to be the first truly plus-sized model to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Aside from modeling, she has been busy advocating self-acceptance, female empowerment and body-positivity.

Starring in the music video is just another way for Ashley to tell the public that “Plus size? More like my size” according to her first TEDx talk.
