The #ScoutFaves From Last Week (1/9/2017)

When we talk about our faves from the past week, we’re not talking necessarily about things that happened last week. In our Internet-driven culture we end up finding relics hidden deep in the interwebs, and you may have already known about something we found out about just now. At this point everything has already been talked about anyway in one way or another, so we’re just going to be real and do what we do best: talk about what we like.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend — My girlfriend put me on this show over the weekend, and it’s ridiculous in a good way. It’s like one of those mid-2000s sitcoms meets Glee meets The Lonely Island—I don’t know why, but I like it. I enjoy Rachel Bloom’s nearly-unfiltered over-the-top craziness.

The Flash: Rebirth — I got this from a good friend for Christmas, and as more of a Marvel boy, it’s a real eye-opener. The only DC consistent exposure I get is the Arrowverse on CW and the movies, so The Flash: Rebirth was a good jump-off point for the current status quo.

The Cinema of Wong Kar Wai by Wong Kar Wai and John PowersLiving editorial assistant, Oliver, ordered this magnificent book online. SO. MUCH. FEELS. Now, I’m thinking of doing a Wong Kar Wai marathon. Over the next weekend, maybe?

Arctic Monkeys’ live cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” at BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge – I’m a hip hop music listening kind of person but when I don’t listen to my hiphop tunes, I go for some rock. Arctic Monkeys is probably my most favorite rock band in the entire world. I go mad whenever those fake posters pop up in the internet about them going here. But when they do, I’d definitely watch! There’s not much new from them lately so when I saw this at YouTube, I couldn’t even contain myself. Plus, my hiphop and rock music meeting in the middle. The best.

Skam – New series alert! Some people have only heard of this series. It’s a Norwegian TV series about the daily life of teenagers at the Hartvig Nissen School (sounds familiar?) If you liked Skins, then you should definitely try this!

Colourpop’s Lippie Stix and Ultra Satin Lip – As I’ve mentioned in my article regarding matte liquid lipsticks, these are Colourpop’s more superior lipsticks. They both got great pigmentation without the extreme drying feeling. I also love the colors I have them in. Echo Park in ultra satin is universally flattering on everyone. So pretty!

FKA twigs’ new songs – She mentioned that she won’t be coming out with a new album anytime soon, so I’ll have to live vicariously through the new songs she performed on her Radiant Me tour. My favorite is “Wound Up”–a sensual track perfect for a romantic evening by the beach (though my brother says that this song is way too intense for the beach, haha). FKA twigs is a goddess and it’ll be a dream if she performs here in Manila.

Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin – I’m a big Kid Cudi fan and I finally got to listen to his latest project in full. Happy to say I got what I wanted, and a lot of it too: his adlibs. HMMmmmMMHMMHMHMM WOooooaaAAAAHHHHHHH MMHMMMMHMMMMMMMmmmmm

A Traslacion/Feast of the Black Nazarene good morning towel – Picked one out after a kid asked me to buy one when I went down the LRT station yesterday. Call me a sucker (paid a cool twenty for it too) but looking at the design of this bimpo, it’s pretty cool. When will streetwear brands co-opt this to become purely aesthetic? /s

The Soulja Boy and Chris Brown beef – I don’t know what this is really about, and to me this probably sounds like another marketing stint to be relevant again, but this whole thing is so, so funny. Celebrity beef is off to a good start this year.
