At the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, Up Dharma Down rang 2017 in with news of an updated stage name and Sigurado, the lead single off their upcoming fourth album. UDD, as the band now prefers to be called, are the initials of the band’s full name, a decision fueled by clarity. Describing his frustration over the different names the band has been called (including U.P. Dharma Down. No, the band is not a branch of our state university) throughout over ten years of performing, drummer Ean Mayor told Billboard PH that it just “gets tiring to explain.” UDD was thusly reborn.
Name change aside, the four-piece ensemble is no stranger to new identities, with critics praising the band’s ability to sculpt new and unique soundscapes with each new album. Now, the band continues the thoughtful (and catchy) introspection it’s become known for with Sigurado, which they posted under a brand new Spotify account at midnight. The kicker: Armi Millare has just posted the official lyrics on her Instagram page, the first place they’ve been up since the single drop on New Year’s Eve.
