It seems like every week we hear news about foldable or rollable mobile displays, but as of now there hasn’t been any put into production. Well, all that may change. There have been rumors that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy X will feature a display that can rolled up and put in your pocket. The 5.7 inch display has 1080p resolution and is reported to be only 0.3 mm thick.
Samsung uses a flexible OLED display in its Edge handsets but this new display is going to be bendable and can be rolled up into a scroll. Usability in that state, however, is another question. The new display was showcased in the SID 2016 event in San Francisco recently and you can watch the teaser below.
The race to design the first fully flexible smartphone is now on. According to Pocket-Lint, competitors like LG are also working on their own displays. Expect the Samsung Galaxy X to be released sometime in 2017.
