Local indie rock band Ang Bandang Shirley has been slow-burning their upcoming third album, and the hype for it is only getting hotter after releasing a new single, “Siberia,” with an accompanying music video.
Directed and edited by Kathy Gener, the video is pretty simple: it features Atenean Richelle Amponin singing along to the song, with a lot of its Tagalog lyrics flashed on the video, translated to English to help communicate the words’ meaning. And it’s a powerful message, at that—the song is about the optimistic power of love, that it can come when you need it, no matter what.
Ang Bandang Shirley’s third album is coming out in the first quarter of 2017, under Wide-Eyed Records. Keep your eyes and ears out for that. In the meantime, you can listen to “Siberia” anywhere—in fact, it’s even #1 on Spotify’s local Viral Hits chart.
