Scout Friday Picks: Pure Mind Quiet Heart

Based in Taytay, Rizal, Pure Mind Quiet Heart has been making music since 2008, but you’ve probably never heard of any of his music on television. That’s cause most of his music is released through the internet. Pure Mind Quiet Heart, or PMQH for short, is one of the many artists that have found their space (and their audience) online, and has released projects from 2010’s “Encourage EP” to this year’s “Trapsilog EP.” A member of the Pixel Collective and FGMNTS, PMQH’s music is a tie-up between several genres, including cloud rap, lo-fi, and electronic, and is a special vocie on his own. TWNTY, a song about buying in the sari-sari store and romantic relationships, is a showcase of another side of the non-mainstream scene. On his personal Facebook account, he shares reviews of local snacks and posts updates of corny jokes.

So during these weird, dark times, we ask him for a playlist on how to deal with everything that’s happening. His message?  “Basta stay on track lang. I mean wag mag-papaapekto sa mga nangyayari. maraming nafu-fool sa Internet. Don’t let those negative things ruin your goals and dreams. Move on pa rin through life. Pray for the brighter day. ”

Here are his song picks on how to deal:

1. Keith Ape (feat. JayAllDay, Loota, Okasian & Kohh) – “잊지마 (It G Ma)”

“It G Ma” means “Never Forget” in English.

2. Yung Lean – “Hurt”

The title says it all. #sadboys

3. James Bay – “Let It Go”

“Pinarinig ‘to saken ng friend ko, eh ang catchy ng chorus tapos ‘nung nakita ko yung lyrics ng chorus, parang relevant sa ngayon. It says ‘So come on let it go. Just let it be. Why don’t you be you? And I’ll be me. Everything that’s broke.Leave it to the breeze. Why don’t you be you. And I’ll be me.’

Marami kasing nagkakasiraan ng friendship dahil sa political issues kaya let it go na lang. para ayos lahat.”

4. The Devil Wears Prada – “Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over”

Medyo nakaka-cringe kasi mga nangyari kaya para yan sa galit ng mga tao sa mundo Sabi kasi diyan na ‘welcome to the war.'”

5. Kendrick Lamar – “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”

“I am a sinner
Who is probably going to sin again
Lord forgive me
Lord forgive me
Things I don’t understand.”
Guys, Please don’t kill my vibe. Don’t kill my happy vibes.

6. Pure Mind Quiet Heart – “Chaos and Troubles”

“The title of this song is in contrary to the real meaning of the song. ‘I feel so alive right now without the chaos and troubles’. Song ko talaga yan para sa pagpapapsalamat sa Diyos na kahit ang daming gulo, still, I’m alive. Alive in a way na blessed pa din. ”
